Keri Russel produces and stars in this new series, “The Diplomat”. It keeps you at the edge of your seat from beginning to end without engaging in the violence and gory tricks that usually bind us. The core of the story is about an intelligent woman placed in an interesting situation as a diplomat of the United States to the United Kingdom.

Keri Russell’s husband is brilliantly played by Rufus Sewell, also a diplomat. Their relationship is conflicted, to say the least, but somehow they don’t seem able to let go of each other. There is an outside male temptation that puts the relationship to the test. I’ve seen Rugus Sewell in one of my favorite movies “Dangerous Beauty.” A beautiful love story. If you haven’t seen it, you should because it’s awesome. I’ve also seen him playing the bad guy in “A Knights Tale”, also watch-worthy. He gets better looking with age.

I was unfamiliar with Keri Russell’s acting abilities and she has wowed me every step of the way. She is The Diplomat with a mind sharp as a razor blade, analyzing, thinking, and plotting, while trying to be fair and true.

Another pleasant surprise was the presence of Rory Kinnear. I kept shifting from “it’s him” to ” it’s not him” but yay it is indeed my favorite creature ever. Rory Kinnear played ‘the creature’ in the tv series “Penny Dreadful” with Eva Green. I’ll admit to falling in love with him reciting poems and being more human than any of us.

In The Diplomat he plays an important part but I cannot say more about it because I don’t want to spoil it for you. Do know that you are in the presence of a master actor. I know, I sound like a groupie but I love The Creature.

I do hope this series has a very long run since it really is wonderful. Need I say more? Watchable.
