Uncertain Future 2021

It’s tradition to spend the last days of each year reminiscing about how hard the year has been. We all turn into “the glass half empty” people while expressing hope and joy for the new year right around the corner. Of course, this sentiment is expressed while we chose our year end outfit and which dinner invitation to accept, making arrangements for sitters for children or pets. Rush to the hair salon. Then rush to the nail salon. Stop by the cleaners and pick up your better half’s attire. All that fun with new shoes and places to go. This end of a year is totally different. The glass is truly half empty, maybe just plain empty. People will be missing from their homes. People will be alone or with less than the usual gang of friends and family. Some people will not have enough food or any food to feed their families. This is a sad and terrifying end of year. It promises to get worse before it gets better. I just don’t want to be the fool that writes in denial. Telling lies about our situation will not help anyone just make us sound and feel foolish. Having looked at the bottom of the glass, as the realist that I am, I will also find a deep sense of hope, as the optimist that I also am. Just figure it out. Let’s keep our distance together, and find the way around this maze until be can again look inside our glass and , at least, find it half full.
