My love of musicals is legendary. The movie The Piano is one of the most beautiful, insightful movies ever produced. It’s fair to say that throughout the years I’ve seen it, maybe, twenty times. Set in New Zealand we get a close-up of the beauty of their Aborigine society. Jane Campion writes, directs, and produces this Academy Award winner. Holly Hunter, mute since childhood and her child, played by Anna Paquin, are at the center of this awe-inspiring story. Holly Hunter is at the piano playing music you need to stop what you are doing and allow it to entrance and own you. I fell in love with all the characters of this saga but the little girl won my heart forever. Anna Paquin wins an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress at the age of eleven. She owned the part and earned the Award.

Since The Piano, Anna is at the center of another of my favorite movies, Fly Away Home. If you’ve missed this gem rush and make sure you get to see it. Similar to the movie The Piano, I must have watched Fly Away Home about twenty times. The little girl losses her mother to a car accident and goes to live with her sculptor father. She is a sad child and her dad struggles to connect to his child, whom he loves dearly. There are baby geese, tree huggers, airplanes, adventures, and a story to blow you into happy land. It’s loosely based on a true story.

Little Anna Paquin grows into a lovely teenager as seen in the movie Finding Forrester starring Sean Connery. I think this is Sean Connery’s best film. The camera loves Anna and she loves it right back. The story is about a recluse writer that meets as a young teenage aspiring writer. The plot unfolds from there. Everything about this movie is spot on. Don’t pass it by. It’s wonderful.

Anna Paquin, the grown woman booms onto the screen in the series, True Blood. The child actress has transitioned to the adult actress completing the process right before our eyes. She owns her trade. At the center of True Story, she keeps us spellbound by many changing faces. She pulls off being a modern ingenue. She’s no one’s fool but an innocent at the same time. Not an easy role to pull off and she did so with flying stars.

I recently saw her in a series, which I recommend watching, Alias Grace. As usual, she does not disappoint.

Anna Paquin, the spotlight is on you.
