Through My Eyes: The movie “The King”
The historical epic film The King has been around since 2019, but I’ve avoided it like the plague because I abhor monarchic stories.
After succumbing to viewing both “Dune” movies, I have become entranced by Timothee Chalamet’s beauty and talent. I beg you not to read more into this comment than I genuinely mean. I’m no one’s fan or groupy. I do collect objects and moments of great beauty. That is my life calling. My collection could include a seemingly perfect Mikimoto pearl or Timothee Chalamet’s physical image. Those old, dead eyes are the eyes of someone ancient encased in that beautiful body. He is a boy. He is a man. In this film, he is a king like you’ve never seen before.
This extraordinary actor pulls off what was once attempted with the late Steve McQueen during his much too short life. All those camera close-ups of Steve McQueen trying to embrace him fell flat on me. Still, by some cinematographic magic, the images embrace Timothee Chalamet with his boy’s genius looks and his dead eyes.
The story is smart and compelling and does not waste your time trying to convince you. You are either in or out. I went all in.
My most precious commodity, my time, was well invested. Not once did I feel, as I often do, why am I watching this? The story and the acting, and the dead eyes glued my butt to the seat and made me stare at the screen. I did not want to blink, afraid I would miss something.
Fair is fair. The entire cast rose to the occasion, making this movie flawless.
If you, as I did, have passed The King by, stop and make the time. You’ll walk away with more than when you started.
Thank you for reading.
