Once in a while a particular word sticks, like glue and Velcro, to my mind and I just can’t shake it. The word feels like a discovery, an unveiling to a puzzle or riddle. Just like that the word ” inappropriate” jumped up front into my mind while reading about Trump’s latest document eating adventures. At first I was overtaken with disbelief. Something in me could not, or would not, accept as fact that this man would engage in putting mouth and saliva to White House documents. The symbolism grew a life of it’s own. Then came the idea that the prevailing, dominant word to describe Trump is inappropriate. He is, at all times and places, an inappropriate person. At first, this sounded lame, mild, soft. But then, also completely accurate.
Appropriate behavior measures a person’s response to events in their life. An old person standing in public transportation would prompt that an appropriate reacting person gracefully stand and offer the seat. There is joy in being an appropriate person. It appears that inappropriate Trump is just as happy.
Appropriateness is a reaction to an action. Being an appropriate-acting person requires knowledge of common manners, a sense of humanity and a vulnerability to shame and embarrassment. An appropriate acting person is engaged in self-awareness with connections to society and the world that engages us. They can “see” themselves in reference to others.
A flashback of Trumps thousands of odd and outrageous displays of insanity, cruelty, lack of manners, malignant narcissism, sexual predatory habits, his profound vulgarity and many other affronts have in common a lack of appropriate behavior. He feels no shame whatsoever about anything. We’ve seen him pushing foreign dignitaries aside to get in front of a photo shoot. We’ve watched in horror as he walked past Queen Elizabeth to display himself, like a peacock. Petting the President of France, while commenting how well his wife looked for her age. Manhandling his daughter. Throwing paper towels at a crowd of traumatized people. Organizing and engaging a Coup d’état to overthrow the government. Now, we are confronted with him eating, ingesting incriminating documents as his crowning event that could beat all the previous events, put together. The symbolisms involved in the imagery of Trump putting mouth to paper and swallowing are gag worthy,
His next book must be titled ” The Art of Inappropriate Me”. He is vile, dangerous, and has proven that he will do anything to have his way. It’s time to lock up the madman and toss the key away. Survival of the fittest requires that we end this charade and act swiftly and promptly. He is danger to society and has no shame. LOCK HIM UP. Thank you for reading.
