According to US Government Census, 1860, 1.6% of rich plantation owners were able to convince the majority of southerners to fight a civil war for a cause that only reduced the value of their own labor and pay. The numerical part made me curious so I checked this information. A little more data taught me that during the Civil War 620,000 ( 2% of the total population ) died fighting over the wishes of 496,00 plantation owners. More wars, more deception and death.
