This new recipe has only two basic ingredients: cake flour and apple sauce. So I decided to give it a try. I mixed a ratio of more flour than apple sauce since you want to create a batter. It requires oil to fry in. I used Canola, about two inches deep in my smallest pan since this was a test drive. I also readied a plate with a mix of brown sugar and cinnamon to roll the dumplings in once ready.
From beginning to start it took me about 10 minutes to create, cook and serve these little goodies. The first one came out bumpy since I poured it from a spoon directly into the hot oil. The others are nice and round because I coated my hands with some of the cake flour and was able to shape them into balls. The bumpy dumpling was my favorite because the bumps were tasty crunchy yum spots.
It’s easier to buy these at our supermarket but…. these are cooked in fresh oil. They contain no trans fat and have been handled only by your clean hands. So, if you have that craving for something fried, try to make it at home. It’s a lesser evil. Bon appetit.
