Some collectors are also dealers. Other collectors are just that, collectors. Drawn by the allure of particular types of items that compel us to observe, study, invest and smile a lot.

Collectors, in my opinion, are a happy group of people. The reason for this particular type of happiness is that they remain anchored by their fascination with their chosen collection/s, while the rest of the world is preoccupied with events. Collectors have that special place to escape to. Paintings, stamps, dolls, cars, shoes, books, stemware, china… It can be anything, as long as it holds your attention endlessly. I never tire of studying and caring for my objects, which I collect. As a lifelong collector, I will tell you that not just anything becomes beloved, regardless of the monetary value. We bestow the value upon our private collections with our interest and intent to save and preserve them. These endeavors makes our life more interesting. Maybe it’s an expression of being or becoming civilized. One cannot complain about that.

Mother of Pearl, also known as Nacre, is an organic inorganic composite material produced by some mollusks as an inner shell layer. It is also the material of which pearls are composed. It is strong, resilient and iridescent. (Wilkipedia).

When Mother of Pearls is used to create the handle of a piece of flatware they have a smooth and cool, yet soft, feel to them. Once the silver tins and ornate ferrule ( ring that binds the top and bottom of the flatware piece.) are put together the piece of flatware becomes an objet d’art .
